Maison Martin Margiela
There isn't much public knowledge about the Belgium designer or the team who now operate the fashion house. What we do know though, is they are creative geniuses. From the brand image to the runway collections themselves, it is all about the mystery, which is something I find so intriguing and opposite to every other major fashion brand around today. There is something about leaving a little (or a lot in this case) to the imagination. The in-store staff are required to wear white lab coats, along with the fact their runway models often have their faces hidden only adds to the curious mystery of the brand. Their customer doesn't seem to be to concerned anyway as they have successfully opened 11 stores worldwide and continue to be well attended shows at Paris Fashion Week.
What I love about the aesthetic of the brand is the quirkiness yet simplistic designs they show. The accessories and footwear have become a favourite of mine and are really a style you just don't see here in Canada that often. The attention to detail and the attraction to the reverse norm sets this brand apart.
