Guest Post: Makeup Routine

Natalie Mitchell

Ever since I was young I have been obsessed with makeup and beauty products. I can remember spending hours looking in the makeup aisles of drugstores and at makeup counters playing with everything. I’ve always had a thing for scented products too. I smell everything!

My makeup routine is pretty simple, everyday I use Sephora collection bronzer, which makes it look like I’ve been hanging at the beach in the sun, but is not overly sparkly. I use Benefit Coralista for blush, and MAC Select moisturecover concealer which covers everything and stays put throughout the day. My absolute favourite mascara, is Rimmel Extra Super Lash. I first tried this when one of my friends was using it, and it works better than any other mascara I’ve tried. It adds volume and length, and the brush is tapered so it is easy to reach every lash. It is also extremely cheap and you can find it at almost every drugstore. Sometimes if I am going out at night I’ll add foundation and eyeliner to my regular routine. I like MAC Face + Body foundation, I’ve always been covered in freckles and a lot of foundations are too heavy and look chalky, but this goes on really translucent and dewy. I use it with a MAC #39 foundation brush, with this brush it takes two seconds to apply makeup to your whole face. My favourite eyeliner is MAC fluidline, I always use it with an angled brush from MAC. It’s basically foolproof, you can apply this without even looking and it looks great and never smudges. At the end of the night I never forget to wash all my makeup off, there is nothing worse than waking up and having your eyelashes stuck together and bent all out of shape. I love MAC Cleanse off oil for removing makeup; it dissolves everything, smells amazing, and leaves your skin extremely soft.

Pureology Hydrate Shampoo and Conditioner have been my go-to shampoo and conditioner since my hair has become a lot dryer after dying it many times. Once a week I use Bumble and Bumble Deeep treatment. It restores all the protein back into your hair after it’s been chemically treated. You are supposed to leave it in for 20 minutes so I usually put it in my hair and wrap it up in a towel while I am cooking dinner and then rinse it out. My hair is always so soft and silky after, and it smells fantastic too! Before blow-drying I use Moroccan Oil on the ends of my hair to smooth down any frizzy pieces. I am totally obsessed with L’Oreal Elnett hairspray, you can spray your hair over and over and will still be able to run your fingers through it, it's the best, I will never buy anything else!

Growing up in Calgary I’ve always been plagued with dry skin, especially in the freezing winters. Palmer’s Cocoa butter lotion is the best. It smells amazing, like chocolate and it is packed with Vitamin E, which softens and moisturizes dry skin. It is also great for prolonging a tan. I have always used Nivea soft on my face; it has a super light feel, but is very moisturizing.
