Profile - Hayley Wright and Lux Vintage Boutique

Let me introduce my lovely friend Hayley, owner and founder of Lux Vintage Boutique. With her impeccable sense of style and free spirit, she has successfully opened her own online vintage and consignment boutique, with loyal customers everywhere from Vancouver to Switzerland. Let's get to know her shall we?

What is your favourite part of your job?
My favourite part is definitely all of the shopping I get to do. Most people get really impatient shopping with me because I have no problem spending 2 hours in a dingy Value Village or thrift store.

What is your least favourite?
Even though I love taking all of the pictures of the merchandise, uploading them to the website and creating product listings can taking all night. I totally avoid doing it.

How did you get this job?
I actually started this business when I visited a consignment store in Vancouver, hoping to get rid of my old clothes. I won't say which store, but I brought her this beautiful, and very expensive Betsey Johnson skirt. I was told we would split the profits 50/50. I ended up getting paid $12 for a skirt that was worth way more! After that, I thought "why don't I just do this myself??" Later that day, Lux Vintage was born.

Any advice for people looking to do something similar?
Be patient. I can't stress how important this is. Be patient when , be patient when photographing, be patient when selling. Just always have unending patience. Otherwise, it's easy to get discouraged when you didn't find anything in the store, or you didn't make a sale that week. If you stick to it, you will be successful!

What do you read on a daily basis (blogs, books, websites, magazines)?
The Man Repeller is my favourite! She has the most amazing sense of style and the best personality. I love that she doesn't take herself too seriously. Otherwise, my days are spent researching fashion illustrators and their blogs, and finding inspirational photography.

What is your favourite thing to cook/bake/make?
I can make a killer peach/strawberry pie in the summer. I love baking and I wish I had more time for it!

Where is the next place you would like to travel too?
Le boyfriend and I have some serious plans to go to Europe. We'll both be graduating school at the same time next year, and we just want some time to explore the world before starting our adult lives. I can't wait to see Paris and Spain!

What is your favourite purchase of 2011 (so far)?
That's a super tough question. It's definitely a toss-up between the vintage royal purple Louis Feraud blazer, or the vintage Burberry trench that I found last month. Both were under $12!What are you currently coveting?AMAZING antique silk tutu's that I found at a vintage store. Too bad they are not for sale! What are you wearing right now?A vintage deep purple long-sleeve blouse, worn underneath my vintage ivory-coloured DVF blazer. I've also got on a ratty old pair of skinny jeans that desperately need replacing, and pair of men's vintage leather shoes.
